Job Description

CTE – Agriculture – Animal Science Teacher @ North Gaston High Leadership Academy 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars Dallas, NC 28034 Definition The Career and Technical Education teacher provides leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students; provides supervision to students in a variety of school-related settings; monitors and evaluates student outcomes; develops, selects, or modifies lesson plans to ensure all student needs are met; maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and Cabarrus County Schools. Duties and Responsibilities Develop lesson plans based on the current North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards document. Introduce students to the broad field of agriculture with an emphasis on animal science. Provide engaging activities and hands-on projects so students can understand animal physiology, breeding, nutrition, and health. Support students in their preparation for a career in animal science. Help students understand how technological systems work together to solve problems and capture opportunities. Develop lessons and classroom resources that support and reinforce physical and social sciences, mathematics, language arts, and art. Lead the local FFA Chapter (Future Farmers of America). Provide normal maintenance of the classroom and equipment to ensure that inventory is up-to-date and available. Utilize classroom management techniques conducive to an effective classroom climate. Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. Follow all safety procedures. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment. Proficiency in common computer desktop applications required. Knowledge of North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards. Knowledge of Gaston County Schools’ Strategic Plan. Knowledge of Gaston County Schools’ policies, rules and regulations. Knowledge of General Statute 115C of the NC State Law concerning Public Education. Knowledge of federal legislation, specifically the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Carl D. Perkins legislation.) Ability to meet the needs of all learners. Ability to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction. Ability to motivate students. Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment. Ability to analyze situations, determine possible options, and make appropriate decisions based on the facts. Ability to develop and compile records and reports. Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom. Ability to operate common office machines. Ability to maintain basic files and records. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from superiors. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Skilled in assessment and using its data for teaching and learning. Understanding the growth and development of assigned students. Experience with Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Experience with Smartboard© and other forms of technology. Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must possess the visual acuity to prepare data, work with record processes, and do extensive reading and research. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, etc. Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in the area of licensure. NC Teaching Certification – Licensure Area 700 Agriculture Education Completion of the 40-hour New Teacher Induction Program approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Career and Technical Education.
