Term Lecturer, Anthropology Job Summary:
The Anthropology Department at Barnard College seeks a full-time Term Lecturer to teach undergraduate courses. This is a one-year position beginning on July 1, 2025, with teaching responsibilities during the standard academic year from September through May.
Job Description:
Term Lecturers teach three courses per semester. Teaching expectations include two sections of the department’s introductory course, one section of the department’s senior thesis capstone, one Anthropology elective on the Anthropology of healthcare, and two sections of an Anthropology-themed seminar as part of Barnard’s First-Year Seminar program. Exact instructional assignments and other academic responsibilities are determined by the Chair or Director.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
Required Qualifications Terminal degree in a related discipline, with all requirements for the degree completed by the beginning of the appointment. A research background in the ethnography of New York City with a focus on non-profits, public health, and American welfare. Demonstrated excellence in teaching large introductory classes in sociocultural Anthropology as well as in mentoring undergraduate thesis projects. Salary:
$85,500 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
