Job Description

Faculty, Visual Arts /Graphic Design 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 600 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132 This faculty teaches graphic design courses in a professionally focused curriculum for NWSA high school and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs. This is a full-time Faculty (FAC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees. The BFA graphic design program at New World School of the Arts (NWSA) prepares students for various professional outcomes with a strong foundation that addresses design, business, communication, technology, and art, encouraging interdisciplinary and collaborative work across the visual arts. The position requires teaching courses in at least two of the following areas: graphic design, web design, motion graphics, 3D printing, or UI/UX. Faculty are committed to fostering access and belonging in the community of artists, designers, makers, and scholars, incorporating these values in teaching, scholarship, and professional practices. The faculty must effectively work with students from diverse artistic and design backgrounds, guiding senior exhibitions and internships. They must stay current in graphic design techniques, including new programs, trends, styles, studio/lab organization, safety, and technologies. Candidates should assist with curriculum development and assessment, and advising students is required. Duties & Responsibilities Teaches graphic design courses for both NWSA high school and college programs to include all levels of communication and graphic design and other related areas such as web design, motion graphics, and/or UI/UX Participates in departmental, campus, and college affairs. Participates in curriculum development and revision for visual arts courses. Participates in student recruitment for the NWSA high school and college programs. Participates in a variety of departmental, campus and college‐wide programs, activities and committees. Recommends distinguished visiting artists to the dean for consideration. Maintains current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources. Evaluates students’ performance through a variety of means to measure progress and keep them informed in a timely manner. Coordinates safe and efficient functions of the art facilities, including computer labs, printers and digital equipment, and ordering and disposing materials following OSHA requirements. Demonstrates a positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community. Exhibits a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities. Demonstrated problem solving and abstract thinking skills. Performs other duties as assigned Participates in all portfolio reviews, juries, advisement, and other recruitment related activities. Attends exhibition openings, lectures, and other programming organized by the division and college. Attends local, state, and national conferences regularly to promote NWSA. Minimum Requirements Master’s degree in Commercial Art, Computer Animation, Digital Design, Graphic Art, Graphic Design or Web Design; or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Commercial Art, Computer Animation, Digital Design, Graphic Art, Graphic Design or Web Design. Three (3) years working in the graphic design field. Proficient in Adobe Creative CS and related design software. All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution Industry experience, commercial or exhibition experience in the field. Regional or national recognition in their area of expertise. Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction. Demonstrate a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence. Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Flexibility to work a flexible schedule to accommodate juries, advisement, recruitment, and other departmental and school activities. Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community. Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment. Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments. Doctoral stipend is awarded in addition to base salary, as applicable. High School, college or university teaching experience. Qualified applicants must demonstrate positive human relations and communication skills. Start date for this Faculty position is anticipated to begin Fall 2025. Preferences Six (6) years of teaching experience at high school, college or professional levels of graphic design. Preference will be given to applicants with college level teaching experience. Five (5) years working in the graphic design field. MFA degree preferred. Previous curriculum development and recruitment experience a plus. Strong visual arts studio background at the undergraduate level. Demonstrated effective use of active learning techniques.
