Position Overview The Department of Performance Studies at Rider University seeks an adjunct instructor for VC 593 Opera Theater for the Fall 2025 semester. This position is to direct the fall production of El gato con botas by Xavier Montsalvatge. We are also seeking an adjunct instructor for VC 593 Opera Theater for the Spring 2026 semester. This position is to direct the spring production of Speed Dating Tonight by Michael Ching.
Salary is $4,133.31 for a 3 credit course. Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience Significant experience in opera direction, both at the professional and at the academic level. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills. Experience adhering to a strict budget. Experience and skill in creative problem solving. Understanding of all elements of production that intersect with the position of stage director. Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines. Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent professional experience) desired. Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience Master’s Degree in either the Music or Theater Fields, and/or significant professional and academic experience in opera direction.
