Adjunct Faculty Job Summary The East Tennessee State University Department of Music is seeking an adjunct faculty member to teach horn beginning in the fall 2025 semester. The position includes leading the undergraduate and graduate horn studio, teaching applied horn, horn studio, brass methods (for music education majors), brass pedagogy, brass literature, and chamber music. Additional courses may be available depending on the skill set of the individual and the needs of the department. Candidates with other areas of teaching experience/training are strongly preferred (such as music theory, aural skills, music history, or other). Clearly indicate these interest/expertise areas in the cover letter. The Department of Music is composed of 175 undergraduate students and a new graduate program (beginning fall 2025).

Salary:

$1000 per credit for faculty with a doctorate degree; $900 per credit for faculty with a master’s degree. The expected load in the first year is to be no less than 6 credits each semester of horn-related classes. Additional courses are added if qualified. Faculty may also teach private lessons in the Community Music School. Recruitment activities are paid on an hourly basis and strongly encouraged. Minimum of earned master’s degree in music performance or music education with horn as primary.
Evidence of successful studio teaching at the secondary and/or collegiate level.
Evidence of ongoing performance as a professional musician.
Preferred Qualifications
The ability to work with other faculty in a collegial and professional manner
Interest in building relationships with community arts organizations, professional musicians, and other ensembles in the region/state.
Demonstrated ability to recruit students
