DESCRIPTION
QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from an accredited educational institution
(2) Valid State of Florida Educator’s Certificate or Statement of Eligibility
(3) Satisfactory criminal background check
(4) ESOL Endorsement/Certification preferred
(5) Valid Florida Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
(1) Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and procedure manuals. Follow directions and
apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
(2) To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of current Human Resources leave
system and Skyward inventory system (if applicable) or be willing to learn new technology practices.
(3) Ability to utilize technology in facilitating instruction
(4) Possess broad range of knowledge in a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking,
sculpture, collage, design, and construction.
(5) Ability to think critically about the details of a task at hand and plan in order to meet project timelines to
drive real-time progress
(6) Willingness to work with others and respond constructively to feed back; work collaboratively with
colleagues
(7) Skills to incorporate art history in ways that are engaging and meaningful to students and objectives
(8) Ability to utilize in-class assessments to shape lessons and drive instruction
(9) Ability to enforce 100% engagement in a classroom of scholars at all times and utilize behavior
management strategies to set and maintain clear expectations in your art studio
(10) Proven record of achievement as evidenced by student work, learning and data
(11) Ability to student curriculum and Common Core Standards for grade levels taught and do the
intellectual work needed to deliver instruction at a high level.
(12) Ability to adjust tasks and schedule to changed priorities

JOB GOAL
The Art Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative
expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines; to
discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES
(1) Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating the importance
and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the honorable profession
of teaching.
(2) Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest,
and abilities of students
(3) Ability to utilize technology in facilitating instruction
(4) Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history
(5) Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to
make qualitative judgments about art
(6) Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
(7) Understand the versatility of acrylic paints: dry brushing, staining, layering, underpainting
(8) Understand a variety of “masters” techniques
(9) Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art
(10) Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique
(11) Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with
varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
(12) Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment
(13) Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and
to minimize time required for distribution and collection
(14) Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and
prepare progress reports
(15) Select and requisition books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintain required
inventory records
(16) Attends IEP, Section 504, or other related meetings necessary for student assessment and/or
compliance with federal and/or state law
(17) Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the
community
(18) May sponsor exhibits from outside the school
(19) Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school
and/or in self-selected professional growth activities
(20) Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress
(21) Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after school art club
(22) Perform any other duties as assigned by Principal(s)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light Work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as
needed to move objects

TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. Position is ten
months; seven and half hours per day. Instructional Salary Schedule.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the PCSD Board’s policy on
evaluation of personnel.
