Job Description
Mount Alvernia Academy, a Franciscan Catholic elementary school, is seeking a part-time/full time art teacher for Kindergarten to Sixth grade to provide learning activities appropriate to students’ age to develop an interest in and ability for creative expression as well as to cultivate an understanding and appreciation of art.
Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following:

• Plan and prepare an art curriculum reflective of a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and styles with clear learning objectives;
• Develop age-appropriate instructional strategies to achieve the art curriculum objectives;
• Demonstrate and assist students to use different techniques and media to create art works aligned to artistic abilities;
• Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning;
• Instruct students in the use and care for materials, tools, and equipment;
• Plan, coordinate, and present students’ work for the Annual Art Fair;
• Monitor usage and storage of inventory of materials, tools, and equipment;
• Communicate with teachers, parents, and administrators about students’ social, behavioral, or work issues;
• Provide online grades biannually for students;
• Model the school’s mission and philosophy in working with the school community.

Education and Experience:

• BA/MA or related degree in Art or Art Education
• Experience in a school setting or similar role
• Experience working with elementary students

Skills:

• Excellent communication, planning, and organization skills
• Must collaborate with colleagues and be committed to supporting the entire school program
  Regular attendance is a necessary function.

Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential for the supervision and instruction of the students. While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and/or crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit, walk, and may be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
