As an Art Teacher, you will play a vital role in helping students express themselves creatively while supporting their overall growth.
JOB GOAL
: To design, implement, and oversee individualized art curricula for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within the framework of the innovative Daily Life Therapy® methodology.
Performance Responsibilities:
Implement Art Program which is a fundamental area of study of Daily Life Therapy®. Write and present quarterly progress reports related to Art to the Master Teacher. Order and supplement all Art materials and supplies as needed Maintain ceramics program with students. Prepare information (i.e. educational assessment, Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and objectives, quarterly progress reports) and /or attend periodical I.E.P. meetings. Attend teacher meetings and inservice meetings. Coordinate students’ participation in activities sponsored by local activities. Study and develop further knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of Daily Life Therapy, as well as recent developments in Art Education. Provide and implement a physically safe environment for all students in all situations. Develop an environment that is organized and stimulating and reflective of the student’s participation in the creation of this environment. Participate in all student activities including; extensive physical exercise, various forms of exercise including lifting, standing, squatting and jogging one to three miles daily. Adhere to school policies pertaining to all aspects of students’ rights and student affairs. Adhere to school policies pertaining to personnel and other governing agencies. Maintain an open, honest and tactful relationship with parents and other individuals involved with the students. Respond to parent’s inquiries or phone calls promptly, respectfully and discreetly and record according to the designated procedures. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality with parents and others. Serve as an active participant on the Event Committee to plan and coordinate all school events. Support classroom teachers with the teaching of Daily Life Therapy as needed (snack, lunch, changing time, break time, or whenever needed). Attend daily division meeting, monthly parent study meetings. Attend morning meetings and afternoon meetings. Perform all other duties as assigned by Master Teacher, Division Directors and/or Director of Programming.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education or a related field. Initiative and excellent communication skills.
Preferred:
Experience with Autism Spectrum Disorder or special education settings. Training in Daily Life Therapy® .
