Description Job Overview:

 The Art Teacher at Community Academy of Philadelphia will be responsible for developing student interest in art and artistic. Through well planned lessons, students will develop aesthetic understanding and appreciation. The High School Art teacher will instruct students to develop their talents in the field of art.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Ensure your pupils achieve learning outcomes that are above average in the subject of Art Education by instructing students in a clear, concise and fun way, and regularly preparing lesson plans that are engaging and incorporate the curriculum
Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history,
Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art
Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting
Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities
Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection
Evaluate each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and prepare progress reports
Incorporate the school’s objectives into your curriculum by remaining up to date with mission and initiatives
Attend staff meetings and development days to improve your skills and receive help and feedback from colleagues
Regularly communicate with parents and legal guardians regarding child’s performance, track and record student progress and keep records up to date for progress reports and report card conferences
Review curriculum needs and execute plans for improvement, and provide tutoring and additional support
Act as a role model by making your students feel motivated while maintaining an approachable personality
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned
Attend school events to better understand student interest and personalities outside of the regular classroom, build strong relationships with your students and aid in the strengthening of their self-confidence while inspiring them to achieve high goals

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Valid Pennsylvania teaching certification – completed or in progress.
Federal, state, and child abuse background checks required.
Candidate must be part of a close professional community and able to contribute in positive ways to the culture of the school.
Communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Flexible and willing to adapt to change at short notice.
Expertise in the field of Art Education.
Experience teaching in a classroom environment.
Ability to communicate effectively with all staff and colleagues.
Flexibility and high adaptation skills to work successfully in an unpredictable school setting.
Computer and technologically literate, in particular using Mac computers and SmartBoards.
Organization and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

must be able to maneuver in classroom environments and classroom spaces, filing, faxing, scanning, copying, mailing, making phone calls, sitting for up to two (2) hours looking at a computer monitor, using keyboards, and typing.
