Position Description Advertised Job Summary The faculty of the School of Visual Art and Design at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full time, professional-track position at the rank of Senior Instructor to begin August 16, 2025. The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. The instructor will teach undergraduate studio art courses at the foundations level in 2D and 3D studio art. The position’s teaching load is a 4/4 (fall/spring) with 10% of time allocated to service (i.e., attending studio area and school meetings, collaborating with faculty on curriculum matters, and occasional service on school level committees). Required Education and Experience The position requires an MFA degree in studio art and at least six years of full-time university level teaching experience. Preferred Qualifications The successful candidate should possess strong technical skills across traditional studio art tools and methods used in 2D and 3D art practices and be able to guide students in conceptual development and practical execution. The successful candidate will also be able to employ diverse instructional methods common in studio art foundations such as demonstration, critique, and individual mentoring.
