To motivate each student to develop competencies, knowledge, and skills in comprehending, speaking, reading, and writing a foreign language. To interpret to students the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken To discover and develop students’ special talents in foreign language communication.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Valid Alabama teaching certificate. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457. Previous successful teaching experience preferred. Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills. Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups. Oral and written fluency in English and assigned language(s) for instruction. Ability to develop and implement curriculum and programming specific to the foreign language program of instruction. Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member. Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information. Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities. Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities. Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages foreign language instruction within that environment. Provides quality foreign language learning experiences for all students and ensures each student’s progress on an individual basis when possible. Familiarizes oneself with the established curriculum and plans lessons in concert with same. Models appropriate and innovative use of technology for students and staff. Utilizes innovative teaching techniques and technology as a teaching tool to plan and provide instruction; acts as a facilitator for students in the use of technology in the classroom. Evaluates student progress in terms of the objectives of the course and grades taught. Meets expectations according to the regular teacher job description. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication. Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language to secondary students, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school system. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy. Provides learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing recordings, media, and other digital/electronic equipment as appropriate. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Instructs students in safe operation of electronic equipment used in language instruction; makes minor equipment adjustments and requests repairs as required. Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studied language is spoken. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. Evaluates and reports each student’s progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing the foreign language in relationship to the level being taught. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping solve student health, attitude, and learning problems. Actively supervises students during assigned duty before, during and/or after school as directed. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as required by the principal. Collects, receipts and submits school funds in accordance with school procedures and Board policy. Participates in state-approved evaluation program as required. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the system and in self-selected professional growth activities, such as foreign language workshops. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy and state and federal rules and regulations. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership. Attends staff development programs, workshops, and conferences to improve professional performance and knowledge. Participates in administration of state and/or standardized testing as assigned; establishes appropriate testing environment and ensures test security. Performs duties in a courteous and professional manner. Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters. Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential problems and/or opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Reports potential problems, unusual events, or work irregularities to appropriate administrative or supervisory personnel. Responds to inquiries, requests, constructive feedback, concerns and/or complaints in a timely and positive manner. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors others in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory. Uses effective collaboration skills to work as a productive team member. Serves on school system committees, tasks forces, and representative groups as required. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the principal and/or supervisor(s).

Terms of Employment :

Nine-month position in accordance with the Board’s salary schedule.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Baldwin County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
