The position plays a pivotal role in guiding students on their language-learning journey by fostering fluency, cultural understanding, and global awareness. This position is designed for an energetic, engaging educator who is passionate about Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, committed to academic excellence, and ready to support the school’s mission in a diverse, college-preparatory environment in Fort Lauderdale. The Spanish Teacher performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Archdiocese of Miami. Salary will vary based on certification and years of service.
Responsibilities include:
Curriculum Development & Instruction:
Design and deliver interactive, standards-aligned lessons for Spanish I-IV and Honors/AP levels, incorporating communicative methodologies, authentic materials, and technology enhanced learning.
Student Assessment & Feedback:
Create and administer a variety of formative and summative assessments quizzes, oral interviews, projects while providing timely, constructive feedback to support student growth.
Classroom Management & Inclusion:
Maintain a welcoming, inclusive classroom atmosphere that respects diverse learning styles and promotes student accountability, following school policies and fostering mutual respect.
Cultural Enrichment:
Integrate Hispanic and Latin American cultural content through literature, films, music, traditions, and current events; organize or participate in activities such as language clubs, celebrations (e.g., Dia de los Muertos), and cultural excursions.
Parental & Community Engagement:
Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, facilitate conferences as needed, and encourage family engagement in the language-learning process.
Collaborative Professionalism:
Work alongside fellow World Language faculty to align curriculum, share best practices, and collaboratively plan department-wide events; attend professional development sessions to stay current in second-language acquisition.
Integration of Technology:
Use digital platforms and educational tools (e.g., Google Classroom, Flipgrid, Duolingo) to enrich learning, support individualized instruction, and enhance communication both inside and outside the classroom.
Support of School Mission & Culture:
Actively participate in school wide initiatives such as liturgies, community service days, open house, and faculty meetings while upholding the values and standards of Cardinal Gibbons High School.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, Education, or related field. Three (3) years or more of experience. Excellent classroom management skills and have demonstrated ability to engage students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others. Presentation skills and knowledge with use of instructional technology, including iPads, in the classroom. Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel; PowerPoint a plus. Excellent oral and written English -language communication skills, including clear speaking voice. Exemplify professionalism in behavior and performance.
