Position Summary:

 This position is a full-time lower school teaching position, primarily teaching beginning Spanish classes at Level 1 for 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. This position begins on August 1, 2025.

Specific Duties Include:

Designing and developing engaging lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with curricular goals and student proficiency levels
Providing instruction in subject-area content while assessing and evaluating student work through thoughtful reading and grading
Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students
Fulfilling additional responsibilities during the school day, including supervision, collaboration with colleagues, participation in school events, and support for daily school operations
Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
Maintaining regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement common course syllabi and assessments
All other duties as assigned

Required Skills:

Knowledge and experience teaching Lower School Spanish
Experience with proficiency-based instruction in an immersive, communicative learning environment preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy
Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Google apps, language lab software, and interactive whiteboard technology
A solid understanding of learning challenges, as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
Strong organizational and classroom management skills

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in Spanish or Foreign Language Education from an accredited institution of higher learning; master’s degree in Spanish or education preferred; native or near native fluency in Spanish
3+ years of successful teaching Lower School Spanish preferred
Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The Spanish Teacher, Lower School position is an exempt, 10-month position. Salary is commensurate with education and experience, and substantial benefits are available.
