Full Job Description Job Summary:
Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans (CCANO) has been offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for over 15 years. ESL classes are offered to adults in the greater metropolitan region. This person will be responsible for class instruction of students of multiple levels in both group and one-on-one settings. Our current class offerings are both online and onsite at our Metairie location. Travel to other locations may be required on an as-needed basis. Instructor/Coach schedules will be developed on a per-term basis depending on the need at that particular time. This is a part-time position.
Duties/Responsibilities Essential Job Functions:
Class Instruction
- 50% Implement a focused curriculum to support students from pre-beginner level to high intermediate level students Instruction and classroom management both in-person and online for adult learners Coaching
- 30% Offer one-on-one support to students to improve attendance and remove barriers to participation Manage own schedule; communicate efficiently with students to manage coaching sessions Administrative/Other
- 20% Collect sign-in sheets; class attendance; etc.
Track and record students’ participation and milestones into the WRU system Ensure effective and empathetic communication with other program staff Ensure compliance with policies and procedures Maintain availability to respond to emergencies Perform other related work as assigned
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, Standing, Walking, Talking, sitting at a desk, and working on a computer. Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at times.
Physical Demands:
Sedentary physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature. Stand less than 33% of time on duty. Walk less than 33% of the time on duty. Sit between 33% and 66% of time on duty. Use of hands to finger, handle or feel over 66% of time on duty. Reach with hands or arms less than 33% of time. Full ability to talk and hear. Correctable vision required. Able to lift/carry up to 10 lbs.
Minimum Educational and General Qualifications:
A bachelor’s or higher level degree from an accredited college or university Intermediate to proficient knowledge of ESL instruction, curriculum, and teaching techniques Bi-lingual (English-Spanish) candidates are strongly preferred. Proficiency in Arabic, HaitianCreole, French, Ukrainian, or other languages valued Ability to work with a culturally diverse population and sensitivity to the special needs of multicultural immigrant adults and families Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective work relationships Strong organizational skills, and ability to work across all levels of management and staff Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all case and client information Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft TEAMS, and WorkReadyU SIS system preferred and ability to learn database/software required Familiarity with Cambridge Ventures curriculum strongly preferred Ability to work some evenings/weekends on a weekly basis Have reliable transportation
