Dearborn enrolls up to sixty-five students in grades 3-12 who have specific learning disabilities and/or mild to moderate emotional challenges. Our rich academic program, which includes college and career preparation, diversified student support and explicit instruction, combined with our strong clinical component, allows students who have been unsuccessful in previous school settings to achieve substantial gains.
The Spanish Teacher works closely with the Dearborn Academy Elementary/Middle and High School teams to create and implement a Spanish language program that is responsive to and supportive of the strengths and needs of the students. Using the Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Frameworks as a guide, the Dearborn Academy Spanish Teacher will be responsible for designing and teaching a comprehensive curriculum that teaches the foundational skills necessary for accurate listening, speaking, writing and reading in Spanish. In addition to their core teaching responsibilities, the Spanish Teacher will also be involved in milieu activities such as supporting students in lunch and recess duty. The successful candidate for this challenging and rewarding position will have the following qualities and experience: Demonstrated compassion and kindness towards students, families and staffBelief that students who demonstrate unexpected behaviors have gaps in their skills, with a drive to identify these gaps and then teach to the skill areas to address these gapsKnowledge of the Massachusetts Frameworks in World LanguageExperience teaching Spanish classes using multiple media and tiered instruction for all levels, including Spanish grammar, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary and composition; guiding students on conversational Spanish; teaching students about Spanish language literature, culture and historyExperience creating and implementing a strengths-based curriculum for students that provides opportunities for success through modifications and accommodations Well-organized and able to create classroom environment supportive of learning and exploringSelf starter with a collaborative style who values a community of highly-engaged team members
Responsibilities:
Design and implement a foreign language curriculum for students grades 3-12 in accordance with state standards that meets the developmental and social emotional needs of students Work collaboratively with Dearborn team to support a consistent and trauma-informed school cultureMaintain an organized and clean classroomActively participate in program, departmental, and school-wide trainings, meetings and activities Other duties as assigned by the
