Portuguese/Spanish Teacher Reports to: Principal of Schools

SUMMARY:
The Portuguese/Spanish teacher will provide instruction in Portuguese and Spanish to second language learners, as well as heritage speakers of Portuguese, collaborate with teachers inside and outside the department, collaborate with families to support student progress, and maintain student data and as required by the department, school, or district.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Develop curriculum content and standards-based curriculum
b) Provide instruction to second language and heritage learners on the developed Portuguese and Spanish curriculum.
c) Monitor student progress using state and district-developed assessments and set student learning goals based on assessments.
d) Reflect on teaching and learning using quantitative and qualitative data and make curricular and instructional adjustments based on data.
e) Collaborate with World Language Department colleagues to analyze student and department data, and make ongoing programmatic improvements.
f) Collaborate and confer with families of students to support language learning and academic achievement
g) Maintain current professional knowledge regarding foreign language instruction through reading professional publications, attending professional conferences, and/or participating in other professional learning activities as approved by building administrators and/or the World Languages curriculum coordinator.
h) Maintain confidentiality regarding personal and work/school related information for all students and staff of the district.
Qualifications:
1. Advanced level of proficiency in Portuguese (native or native-like).
2. Advanced level of proficiency in Spanish (at least Advanced Low)
3. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Licensure Foreign Language – Portuguese.
4. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Licensure Foreign Language – Spanish.
5. Bachelor’s degree, required.
6. Evidence of successful teaching experience, preferred.
7. Strong knowledge base of current research about curriculum, instruction, and assessment in foreign language instruction and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
8. Knowledge of Massachusetts Common Core State Standards and state adopted standards, Instruction, and Assessment and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
9. Experience living in one or more Portuguese or Spanish speaking countries, preferred.
10. Effective computer skills.
11. Strong organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
12. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
13. Experience in providing professional development for teachers, preferred.
14. Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committee’s policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.
WORK YEAR
10 months, 183 days
3 personal days, 12 sick days, prorated pursuant to date of hire
Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date.

The employee will have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and use hand strength to grasp tools. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
