Our teachers becomeexperts in their course content, and have a keen sense of how tomotivate and inspire high school students. Communicating in Spanishis at the heart of all classes. Spanish teachers use a variety ofinstructional strategies to create an environment where studentsfeel safe expressing themselves in a new language. At theconclusion of high school, students are prepared for academicautonomy and college preparatory work.
Responsibilities:
1.Instruction You’ll build students’ bilingual skills and enhancetheir understanding of the Spanish language using a curriculum thatprepares them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate levelcoursework. You’ll help students gain confidence in navigatingprint and audio authentic sources. You’ll teach students how tobuild and enhance their foreign language skillsreading, writing,speaking and listening. You’ll cultivate students’ culturalawareness by helping them learn a new language. You’ll share yourpassion for the Spanish language to build a community of studentswho are confident in speaking Spanish. You will build students’skill and comfort with engaging in conversation in Spanish. You’llwork with the Spanish department to develop academic and engagementgoals for students. 2. Data Analysis You’ll meet weekly with yourprincipal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond totrends in student work samples and assessments. You’ll learn andimplement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learnersin your classroom. 3. School Culture You’ll build positiverelationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, andheard. You’ll partner with students’ families to ensure appropriateresources are available to support their child’s learning needs.
You’ll engage in practice-based professional development,mentorship, and coaching sessions. You’ll participate in weekly,school-wide meetings to cultivate community, model our core values,and encourage student achievement. You’ll partner with your gradelevel team to develop academic goals and practice instructionalstrategies. Qualifications A demonstrated commitment to supportingstudents’ social emotional and academic development An enthusiasmfor collaborating with internal and external partners in the bestinterest of students A self-directed learner who solicits andimplements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
Required Experience:
A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12students in urban schools and communities (1-2 years experiencepreferred). Academic expertise in Spanish or other related fieldsof study. Prior to the start of employment, you must have abachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification is not required to be hired at Uncommon, but you doneed to meet NY state certification eligibility requirements. Tomeet these requirements, you must enroll in a teacher preparationprogram and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher during your employmentwith us if you do not have a degree in education. Uncommon Schoolsteachers are required to become certified in the state of New Yorkwithin a reasonable period after beginning employment. AdditionalInformation Our people are what make us Uncommon. Our compensation philosophy values equity & fairness andattracting & retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation forthis role is between $50,000 to $64,700. Starting pay is determinedusing various factors including but not limited to relevantfull-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenurewith Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teachingexperience will likely have a starting salary of $50,000.
