JOB SUMMARY
To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Utilizes instructional materials and technologies which support the appropriate stage of language acquisition and are consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided.
3. Incorporates best practices such as modeling, establishing relevance, active participation, and using multiple modalities to support language acquisition in both academic contexts and social contexts.
4. Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
5. Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
6. Tailors instructional strategies to meet individual student needs with lessons primarily focused on content specific vocabulary development, fluency, articulation, and comprehension.
7. Becomes knowledgeable of each student’s culture and helps others develop strategies to become adaptable, creative, and sensitive to those cultural differences.
8. Works collaboratively with the interpreter, as needed, while serving as the liaison between the student, family, school and community.
9. Communicates with the systems operator to ensure proper coding of ESOL students.
10. Provides annual faculty review on state and federal ESOL rules and regulations.
11. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
12. Prepares students for state and federal standardized tests and follows all testing security protocols.
13. Serves on Student Support Teams as requested to assist in developing appropriate academic interventions for identified students.
14. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
15. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
16. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
17. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
18. Attends staff meetings, serves on staff committees, and seeks to improve professional competence.
19. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Principal.
