Position Summary & Description
The Department of Biology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applicants for a non-teaching temporary position. The faculty will provide support for the organization, development, operationalization, and assessment of the clinically oriented biomedical science aspects of the educational curriculum from year 1 to 4 in the proposed IUP College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). This appointment runs from June 16 to August 15, 2025.
The faculty member will work closely with the Dean’s Office in the proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine at IUP.

Duties:

Develop curriculum and curricular objectives for coursework in the proposed COM, with an emphasis on integrating core biomedical sciences content and competencies into clinically oriented courses. These would include linking course and programmatic objectives for integrated organ-system arranged modules/units. Curriculum should also support preparation for board examinations such as

level 1, or USMLE level 1. Coordinate the integration of clinically oriented biomedical science related content into clinical system courses in Years 1-2 and clinical clerkship syllabi in Years 3-4
Work collaboratively with other temporary faculty of the COM (Primary Care, Specialty Medicine, and OMM/OPP), and the COM Associate Deans, to ensure that curriculum development is not duplicative, and is pedagogically sound with both planned vertical and horizontal integration relative to clinically oriented basic science. Curriculum should also support preparation for board examinations such as

COMLEX USA

level 1, or USMLE level 1. Assist in development of syllabi, coursework learning objectives and curricula for clinical clerkships, integrating clinically oriented basic science into each of the clinical disciplines, as appropriate
Support in planning and delivering ongoing faculty development activities based on curricular interests and expertise
Participate in curriculum development, assessment and quality improvement as a part of the proposed COM’s ongoing quality improvement and assessment program
Other duties as assigned related to curriculum development related to clinically oriented basic science for the 4-year osteopathic medical education program
Candidate can work online or in person on campus in Indiana.
Position Qualifications
Required

Education, Experience and Certification:

Terminal degree (DO, MD, PhD, DO/PhD, MD/PhD or MS) required
Three (3) years academic experience as (1) a faculty member at an accredited US allopathic or osteopathic medical school, or other graduate or undergraduate program with proven experience in developing a program of •clinically oriented• biomedical science
Demonstrated excellence as faculty with experience in development of medical curricula and coursework in a clinically related program, especially teaching using systems approach and interprofessional education
Additional coursework or degrees with a focus on medical education leadership and/or curriculum pedagogy (preferred)
Competency in anatomy curricular development
Ideal candidates should have experience with rural medicine (preferred) but urban experience acceptable.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience writing and reviewing questions for board exams.
