Job Summary This position is responsible for teaching a variety of courses as well as fulfilling departmental and university-wide responsibilities such as academic advisor, university committee member, and undergraduate student research mentor. About Union University Union University is a private, coeducational liberal arts-based university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. Essential Job Duties Teach undergraduate lectures and laboratories in courses related to the Conservation Biology and Zoology majors, and others as assigned. Specific courses could include comparative vertebrate anatomy, conservation biology, wildlife management, ecology, experimental design and biostatistics.
Work with Biology Faculty and Staff on the Jackson Campus on projects, as needed.
Design and deliver class instruction through the development of instructional plans to meet course competencies, the development of activities that support lesson objectives, and the development of critical thinking skills.
Facilitate/guide the progress of students toward achievement of course and program outcomes. Plan clear course outcomes.
Maintain regular office hours, in person or through electronic means, for student accessibility.
Academically advise Conservation Biology and Zoology majors towards successful completion of their major.
Participate in departmental meetings and university assigned committee work.
Contribute to student learning outcomes in the capstone research sequence for biology majors by mentoring research students in developing, collecting, analyzing, and presenting original scientific research. Other Job Duties Required Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Doctoral degree. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to applicants with a Doctoral degree in an appropriate Biology-related discipline and/or candidates who have previous teaching experience- ideally, at the college-level. The ideal candidate has a background in Conservation Biology, Wildlife Biology, Vertebrate Ecology, or General Biology. Christian Requirement Successful candidates must be professing Christians who are active members of a local church, enthusiastically support Union University’s Identity, Mission, and Core Values, and articulate a Christian worldview in their work and life. Physical Requirements The work performed by this position is of a general office/laboratory nature. It requires the ability to operate a computer and communicate on the telephone and in writing. Work performed does require some walking on campus, extended periods of time sitting and standing, and some daily instances of bending, stooping, and carrying items up to 25 pounds.
