Job Summary
The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive program to enhance power, strength, agility, speed, and flexibility to improve performance and decrease injury potential. This position is responsible for supervising workouts, providing student-athletes with proper guidance and training techniques, assisting with injury rehabilitation in conjunction with the athletic training staff, and designing effective, sport specific training sessions.
Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks
Develop strength and conditioning programs for varsity intercollegiate athletic programs that includes cardiovascular demands by sports, flexibility/stretching program, etc. Provide direct instruction to all student-athletes, as well as providing assessment and documentation tools, in order to assure proper explanation of training techniques. Responsible for continuous testing and evaluations of student-athletes on a routine basis. Coordinate schedule between coaches and facility availability. Conduct orientation sessions to demonstrate modalities of physical training and motivate student-athletes to reach their potential. Coordinate student-athlete rehabilitation workouts with sports medicine. Support education for student-athletes about nutrition and supplementation. Emphasis will be placed on implementation, supervision and teaching progressions for: resistance training, cardiovascular, speed, plyometric, flexibility and functional movement as well as maintain accurate electronic records for each team and student-athletes to monitor progress. Identify necessary strength and conditioning equipment purchases. Recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student workers assigned to the weight room. Manage and operate within the budget parameters, without exception, and submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by the Director of Athletics. Must be present at athletic competitions, and other official University functions. Occasional travel with teams as needed. Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance rules, policies and procedural manuals as well as ethical standards of behavior. Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA Division II by-laws and conference regulations. As per NCAA rule, 17.02.14.1 Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification, responsible for maintaining certification(s)/licensure(s)from a nationally recognized strength and conditioning program required as a condition of employment and providing valid and legitimate proof of certification(s)/licensure(s) to the supervisor prior to the expiration date(s) of certification(s)/licensure(s). Certification must be from any of the following organizations: NSCA, CSCS and SCCC. Will perform light maintenance and rearrange fitness equipment as needed. Additionally, will assist with Department of Athletics set-up of tables, i.e., chairs, and stage/sound equipment for events. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree. Two (2) or more seasons of successful collegiate head coaching experience or assistant coaching experience. NCAA DII or DI collegiate coaching experience.
Must hold current certification from any of the following organizations: NSCA, CSCS and SCCC. First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required. Experience managing interns or graduate assistants.
Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree.

Must possess commitment and capabilities to abide by NCAA and conference rules.
Other Information
Position requires travel. Position requires working evening and/or weekend hours. Applicants are subject to an NCAA enforcement staff compliance review, and employment is contingent upon satisfactory results.
This position will supervise volunteer coaches, student assistants, and part-time strength and conditioning personnel.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
