Athletics Description Summary:
Reports to the Head Men’s Baseball Coach. Responsible for providing representation of student-athletes of Alabama A&M University at the NCAA Division I level in Baseball.
Examples of Duties Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist head baseball coach in organizing, preparing, and conducting individual and team practices, training, and competition.
Assist in the recruiting, organizing, motivating and counseling baseball athletes.
Assist with the tasks associated with recruiting: Letters of Intent (signing) and official visits.
Monitor the students’ class attendance, study hall, grades, commencement ceremonies and travel.
Serve as a role model for student-athletes.
Discipline, monitor personal appearance, conduct, image and general behavior of all student athletes.
Recruit on/off campus and sign students for Baseball Program.
Supervise staff and students in the department, who are assigned to this program.
Acts as a consultant and schedules team travel, hotel, meals and etc.
Evaluate athletes on physical condition and advises them on maintaining maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition.
Serve as an expert in students’ athletes and educate them on issues affecting intercollegiate athletics.
Assure that athletes maintain academic eligibility and records of participation are kept and forwarded to the proper agencies and authorities.
Provide the maintenance and accountability of equipment (i.e. uniforms, field equipment).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications Minimum Position Requirements (including certifications, licenses, etc.):
A Bachelor’s degree.
Must have knowledge of coaching in high school or collegiate level.
Must have demonstrated successful experience in dealing with student-athlete academic related programs.
Supplemental Information Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of all aspects of counseling basic skills in intercollegiate sports
Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to work well with others
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing and to present information in a clear and concise manner
Ability to establish favorable relationships between the University and other colleges and Universities
Ability to compose and prepare reports, records and correspondence
