Teaching Full Job Description SUMMARY:

Position calls for responsibly coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition while simultaneously motivating them to develop an appreciation for the sport. The Head Coach will work closely with student athletes to develop positive character both on and off the field. In addition, the Head Coach will assist/collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel regarding the attendance, academics, and behavior of student athletes before, during, and after soccer season.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

: Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals, and priorities. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assesses the skills of players and assigns team positions. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to promote both individual and team development. Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and/or competitions. Assigns duties to assistant coaches as necessary. Coaches and instructs players individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual and/or team improvement. Determines game strategy based on the capabilities of the team. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met and sustained. Follows established procedures in the event of an injury to the athlete(s). Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student(s). Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program. Models positive sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct toward players, officials, and spectators. Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, local community, and/or other organizations. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and the requisition of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Works with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent night, banquets, award nights, and other assemblies as deemed necessary and appropriate. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data information, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities in conjunction with the soccer program. The duties identified above are illustrations of the various types of work performed. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate ( PREFERRED ). Coaching experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication. Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport. Must possess an in-depth working knowledge of the rules, regulations, and requirements of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (e.g. AHSAA), opponents, staff, parents and students. Must demonstrate good organizational skills. Must be adept at developing and managing budgets. Must emphasize the importance of a well-rounded education for all players. Must be willing to be involved in the Decatur community.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and interpret data.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, stoop, bend and/or run. The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, equipment or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Use the following information when requesting verification of experience from your past employment at other boards of education: Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule

Transfer Sick Leave:

If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department The Decatur City Board of Education awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education. The degree must be verified on an official transcript & recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education.
