Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach provides support and assistance with all aspects of an NJCAA intercollegiate basketball program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
In cooperation with the Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach develops and maintains a system to identify potential recruits and to work closely with area high school coaches and parents to recruit quality student athletes to Marion Military Institute, which will include scouting on and off campus.
Works in conjunction with the Head Basketball Coach to encourage the development of psychological, social, and mental skills necessary for the student athletes to be successful in the classroom, on the court, and in future endeavors, will monitor team study hall, review progress reports, coordinate tutoring schedule, and monitor class attendance.
Works with Admissions and Financial Aid to expedite the admission and registration of basketball student athletes.
Under the direction of the Head Basketball Coach, the Assistant Basketball Coach is assigned to work with selected athletes on various game day situations.
Assists the Head Basketball Coach in developing game strategies, and individual work-out and practice needs for various student athletes.
Arrange times for pregame meals on campus and meals for road games.

Maintain the gym floor and set up and break down the gym for home games.
Arrange for all games to be filmed and uploaded for film exchange and statistics to record and maintain for region and national s.
Responsible for monitoring athlete social media sites.
Responsible for preseason and postseason conditioning and weight programs.
Assist with implementing local fundraising strategies.
Serves as a role model for the student athletes by always exhibiting ethical and professional conduct.
Represents Marion Military Institute at various civic events, throughout themunity.
Cooperates with MMI athletic personnel for efficient utilization of d facilities.
Supports the Mission of Marion Military Institute.
Ads to all policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty and Staff Handbook.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, STANDARDS, AND TRAINING
Minimum Education, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college (master’s degree preferred).
Experience with coaching and/orpeting at the collegiate level required.
Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
Working knowledge of the rules of basketball and the ability to teach critical basketball skills required.
Working knowledge of NJCAA rules and regulations andpetitive basketball strategies and training techniques.
Excellent written and oralmunication skills required.
Ability to effectivelymunicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, civic and business leaders required.
Ability to work as a support individual within a group setting.
The ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes encourages both successful academic development andpetitive performance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position involves both inside, sedentary work and use of gross motor skills for instruction of basketball team.
Demonstration of appropriate basketball skills may involve strained muscles or orthopedic related injuries from running or shooting.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have current licensure for transportation of the team in vans.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Must have current training in First aid and CPR.
Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment.
SALARY:
Salary Schedule C3 06; $32,706-43,639, based on relevant education and experience.
