This role requires a dynamic leader committed to developing student-athletes’ skills, confidence, and character while fostering a competitive, inclusive, and faith-based team culture. The coach will build the program from the ground up, aligning all activities with the school’s Catholic mission to promote spiritual growth, academic success, and athletic excellence. Key Responsibilities Program Development Establish the foundation for the girls’ flag football club team, setting goals for growth, competitiveness, and long-term sustainability. Develop a team handbook outlining expectations, rules, and policies for players and parents. Collaborate with the Athletic Director to create a season schedule, including practices, scrimmages, and potential tournaments or games against local clubs or schools. Player Development Teach core flag football skills, including ball-handling, route-running, flag-pulling, blocking (if permitted), and situational awareness. Provide individualized feedback to improve each player’s technique, confidence, and understanding of the game. Foster leadership, teamwork, and resilience, encouraging players to take ownership of their roles on the team. Monitor academic progress, reinforcing the importance of balancing athletics with studies in line with school expectations. Team Culture & Leadership Cultivate a positive, supportive environment that promotes sportsmanship, respect, discipline, and unity. Integrate the school’s Catholic values into team activities, encouraging prayer, reflection, and service as part of the team experience. Model integrity and professionalism, serving as a role model for student-athletes in all interactions. Communication Communicate practice and game schedules, expectations, and updates to players, parents, and the Athletic Director in a timely, clear manner. Hold a pre-season meeting with players and parents to outline goals, rules, safety protocols, and the club team’s vision. Provide regular feedback to players on performance and areas for growth, and be available for questions or concerns from parents and staff. Collaboration Work closely with the Athletic Director to secure practice facilities, equipment, and any necessary transportation for away games. Coordinate with assistant coaches (if assigned) to delegate tasks, such as running drills, monitoring players, or tracking progress. Partner with school administration to ensure all activities align with the mission, values, and policies of St. Petersburg Catholic High School.

Qualifications Required Experience :

Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience in flag football, tackle football, or a related sport, preferably at the high school or youth level.

Knowledge :

In-depth understanding of flag football rules (e.g., 5-on-5 or 7-on-7 formats), strategies (offensive and defensive plays), and skill development techniques.

Leadership :

Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse group of high school athletes, fostering a cohesive and competitive team.

Communication :

Strong verbal and written skills to effectively engage with students, parents, faculty, and administration.

Background Check :

Must pass a comprehensive background check and fingerprinting as required by the Diocese of St. Petersburg and school policy.

Alignment :

Commitment to the Catholic mission of St. Petersburg Catholic High School, integrating faith, service, and ethics into the team experience.

Preferred Coaching Experience :

Prior experience as a head coach or assistant coach for a girls’ flag football team or similar sport.

Playing Experience :

Background as a player in flag football, tackle football, or a related athletic discipline.

Certifications :

CPR, First Aid, and/or coaching certifications (e.g., USA Football or NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching).

Education :

Experience or coursework in physical education, sports management, or a related field is a plus.
