Job Description

SUMMARY:

Provides assistance with coaching of the Baseball team and all facets of the program, particularly in the areas of recruiting, training, scheduling and conditioning exercise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists the Head Coach with the organization, administration and implementation of the Baseball program.
  • Assists the Head Coach in recruiting and retaining a minimum roster of 45 student-athletes in accordance with Centenary College and NCAA policy guidelines.
  • Participates in organizing and supervising practices and games.
  • Directs preseason conditioning program for student athletes.
  • Establishes daily practice routines to include condition, running and scrimmages.
  • Over 25 percent travel time required to attend SCAC and NCAA meetings, conferences, and training seminars, as well as traveling to support team competitions and recruiting.
  • Must be accessible and reachable by telephone or text message at times other than College business hours for the purpose of team member contact and recruiting purposes for texting or calling recruits after school hours.
  • Must have access to mobile computing outside of the office for recruitment of student-athletes by accessing databases for contact information and adding information, scouting, travel arrangements, budget management and to maintain constant contact with the NCAA, SCAC, scouting information, and team data.
  • Scouts upcoming opponents at the discretion of the Head Coach and within the College, NCAA and the Conference (if applicable) guidelines.
  • Works with Head Coach to develop a game plan for upcoming opponents.
  • Assists the Head Coach with directing and coordinating activities, ensuring compliance with the NCAA and Centenary College guidelines.
  • Collaborates in the organizing, promoting and conducting summer camp activities and various other camps and clinics throughout the year.
  • Supports the Development Office’s efforts to raise money for the Centenary Fund for Student Athletics.
  • Monitors student athletes’ academic progress.
  • Monitoring of Athletic facilities as assigned by Athletic Director
  • Coordinates junior varsity baseball program and serves as its head coach.
  • Other related projects, duties and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary.

As an institutional staff member actively involved with NCAA Division III prospects, student-athletes, and athletic department personnel, you are responsible to uphold all conference and NCAA rules and regulations. In accordance with NCAA bylaw 11.1, you are responsible to report any known violations and will be held accountable for any violations committed within your department.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. MINIMUM Bachelor’s degree 3 or more years as a competitive player or experience in baseball coaching at the college or junior college level preferred. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and Must be people-oriented individual, have good communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people. Well organized and self- Must be able to fulfill job requirements in a high-energy, high-traffic Must be able to obtain First Aid / CPR / AED certification and van driving

PREFERRED

Master’s degree 5 years as a competitive player or experience in college baseball coaching at the assistant or head coaching level. Specific experience with a campus admission/recruiting office, NCAA compliance, event management, outdoor field management, or coaching in another sport.
