Colby is a member of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) and has 28 intercollegiate sports thatpete at the Division III level, and four programs (men’s and women’s Alpine and Nordic Skiing) thatpete at the Division I level. The department also hosts a variety of club and intramural sports. Over one-third of Colby’s 2,200 students participate in intercollegiate sports, and in total, nearly three-quarters are involved in fitness and recreation activities in the department.
The College is home to a new, state-of-the-art athleticsplex, which is among the best Division III facilities in the country. The 350,000 square-foot athletics center includes an indoor track and fieldpetition center, aquatic center with Maine’s first 50-meter pool, squash center, gymnasium, hockey arena, strength and fitness center, training rooms, and coaching suites. Additionally, the College recently opened a 70-acre-plus outdoorpetition center that consists of three gleaming newpetition and recreational fields that are also among the finest outdoor venues in Division III.
The Colby College Department of Athletics is seeking an assistant women’s basketball coach beginning July 1, 2025 and ending June 30, 2026. The assistant women’s basketball coach’s responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all duties involved in running apetitive Division III basketball program.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
To perform successfully in this position, an individual must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily as well as possess education/experience, employ the knowledge, skills, and abilities as listed in representative fashion. On-site coaching in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices
Prepare film breakdown and analysis, and present analysis to team members
Plan and prepare for games
Contribute to strength and conditioning program, including one-on-one strength and conditioning work with student athletes
Provide support and encouragement to student athletes, including academic counseling and advising
Monitor academic progress of athletes
Research academic and athletic credentials
Build relationships with prospective student athletes and their families through email, phone and one-on-one meetings
Recruit and retain talented athletes successfully
Assist in organizing and implementing recruit visits
Understand NCAA rules,pliance, and laws
Ensure safety and well-being of student athletes
Serve as an effective role model for college-age students
Assist with day-to-day operations of the women’s basketball program
Provide effectivemunication to head coach
Collaborate effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members
Assist with the coordination of team travel
Position Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
Previous experience coaching and orpeting at the collegiate level is highly desirable
Committed to the values of a liberal arts education
Strong attention to detail and amitment to delivering
Must be organized, take initiative, and utilize strong time management skills
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Valid driver’s license required and must meet the College’s Fleet Safety Policy requirements
Ability to travel for team practices,petition, and scouting in and out of state
Strong positivemunication and interpersonal skills with all levels
Excellent oral and writtenmunication skills

While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the office space as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities.
There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged personalputer use which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing aputer monitor.
An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focus quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasks as well.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, there may be unexpected instances of somewhat loud sounds.
