This Position is for a Head Softball Coach and Academic Instructor with an educational institution with opportunity in Perkinston, MS.
Job Description:
The Head Softball Coach is responsible for all aspects of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College softball program and reports directly to the College Dean of Athletics. The Assistant Softball Coach(es) report directly to the Head Softball Coach.
Job Duties:
1. Supervise and direct all aspects of the MGCCC Softball Program year round.2. Supervise and direct the activities of the Assistant Softball Coach(es).3. Be knowledgeable of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MACCC) conference rules and regulations pertaining to eligibility, recruiting, conduct of coaches, etc.4. Recruit and supervise student-athletes with integrity and with a professional attitude.5. Serve as an active member of the Perkinston Campus faculty.6. Monitor athletes in dormitory and establish regular bed check schedule. Ensure out-of-state and out-of-country athletes have appropriate housing when dormitories are closed.7. Coordinate the off-season weight and agility programs.8. Ensure that all student-athletes in the softball program are adequately advised for academic or career/technical instruction.9. Ensure that the classroom performance and progress toward graduation of all student-athletes in the softball program are monitored and are satisfactory.10. Work with four-year colleges and universities to assist student-athletes in obtaining scholarships after graduating from
MGCCC.11.
Ensure that all practices are designed and operated to provide quality instruction and conditioning.12. Serve as public relations representative of the college through an active role in public speaking and other P.R. opportunities as coordinated by the College Office of Institutional Relations.13. Establish, coordinate and manage a softball summer camp for high school and middle school students.14. Ensure proper use of softball field. Address maintenance issues in a timely manner. 15. Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and Campus Vice President.
Mandatory Qualifications:
(M1) A Master’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; (M2) A demonstrated record of championship coaching experience at the state or national level; (M3) Strong communication skills; (M4) Strong leadership and managerial skills; (M5) A record of compliance with applicable athletic governing rules and regulations.
Desirable Qualifications:
(D1) Coaching experience at the collegiate level; (D2) Teaching experience at the collegiate level; (D3) The ability to conduct a quality off-season conditioning program; (D4) Recruiting experience at the collegiate level; (D5) Demonstrated competency in technology; (D6) An understanding of and a commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
