Exempt Job Purpose The assistant coach will be responsible for assisting the head coach in managing all aspects of a competitive and successful NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming program with the primary responsibility being to assist in planning and instruction of Swimming skills. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to the academic success of the student athletes in the program that leads to graduation through a positive collegiate experience. Duties and responsibilities Compliance with NCAA, SAC and Catawba College Policies and Regulations The assistant coach must be efficient at individualized and team instruction with emphasis on teaching all skills and strategies associated with the sport. Recruiting quality student-athletes that are committed to the Catawba College mission within the allotted scholarship structure and limits Commitment to and the management of program budget Coordinate and maintain regular communication with Catawba athletics staff, including the Director of Athletics, Compliance, Sports Medicine, Media Relations, Video, Strength & Conditioning, and Facilities Operations Provide academic support and oversight for all student-athletes Meet scheduling Practice and meet planning and implementation Student Athlete development and evaluation Assist with the supervision of an effective strength and conditioning program Managing travel (booking hotels, vans, buses, etc.) Developing and maintaining positive alumni relations Day to day program administration Preparing scouting reports, scouting/film analysis Actively assist with program fundraising and development of alumni and community relations Serve on campus and departmental committees as requested Other duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred Successful collegiate coaching experience is preferred Demonstrated expertise on deck with in pool instruction and knowledge of the sport Ability to recruit student-athletes that will be successful in the classroom and in the pool Ability to lead, mentor and motivate student-athletes Strong communication, organizational, problem solving and interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to produce and manage a competitive Men’s and Women’s Swimming program are important Developing and maintaining positive alumni relations Current CPR and First Aid certification required Assist with the maintenance of the pool Valid North Carolina driver’s license required Application Procedure Interested candidates must send a letter of application, resume and contact information for three references via email to Head Coach, Matthew Gearing at mgearing22@catwaba.edu.
