Qualifications:
Proven ability to organize, lead, and manage a competitive women’s flag football program.
Prior successful coaching experience, ideally at the high school level or above.
Strong understanding of flag football fundamentals, strategies, and techniques, with a commitment to staying current on best practices and evolving the sport.
Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills; acts as a positive role model for student-athletes on and off the field.
Reports To:
Athletic Director (with input from school administration on evaluations and goal setting)
Supervises:
Assistant coach; collaborates with athletic director and school leadership to align middle school and feeder programs.
Job Purpose:
Lead a competitive women’s flag football club program that prioritizes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, academic accountability, and personal growth. Build a culture of integrity, excellence, and school pride while helping student-athletes reach their potential.
General Expectations:
Understand and embrace the significant role athletics play in shaping school and community identity; consistently uphold a positive, inclusive, and respectful representation of Weddington High School and Union County Public Schools.
Accept the demands of coaching, including extended hours, travel, and responsibility for athlete safety and well-being, maintaining professionalism at all times.
Exercise sound judgment and ethical conduct, even beyond formal policy guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Administration:
Enforce all relevant UCPS, NCHSAA, state, conference, and school policies.
Maintain clear, timely communication with the athletic department, school administration, student-athletes, and families.
Assist with scheduling, transportation, facility coordination, and event management.
Ensure all athlete documentation—eligibility, physicals, consent, academic status—is current and accurate.
Coordinate with maintenance and custodial teams to keep facilities ready and safe.
Staff Leadership:
Define and uphold a consistent program philosophy across all levels of the program.
Recruit, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches; encourage their professional growth through clinics, conferences, and collaboration.
Foster a united, supportive coaching staff environment.
Student-Athlete Development:
Deliver expert instruction on flag football fundamentals, tactics, and game-day execution.
Monitor and support academic progress, behavior, and personal growth of athletes.
Promote leadership, accountability, and core values like respect, responsibility, and perseverance.
Implement clear training rules, conduct standards, and team expectations.
Guide athletes through college recruitment and scholarship processes.
Prioritize athlete safety with appropriate injury protocols and emergency preparedness.
Equipment & Budget Management:
Work closely with the athletic director on budgeting and purchasing decisions.
Oversee equipment and uniform inventory, distribution, maintenance, and accountability.
Maintain secure, clean, and organized locker rooms and storage areas.
Community Engagement & Public Relations:
Lead preseason meetings for parents and players and maintain ongoing communication throughout the season.
Represent the program professionally in the school and wider community.
Promote the program via school media, community outreach, and youth flag football initiatives.
Build and sustain positive relationships with boosters, officials, alumni, media, and community stakeholders.
