Job Description

Job Overview:

Vance County High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Assistant Basketball Coach to support the varsity and junior varsity basketball teams. This role is essential in developing student-athletes both on and off the court while upholding the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach to implement game strategies, conduct practices, and mentor student-athletes to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in planning and conducting team practices, drills, and conditioning programs.
Support the development and implementation of game strategies and play execution.
Provide individual and team instruction to enhance player skills and fundamentals.
Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and school-related activities.
Promote and uphold high standards of sportsmanship, discipline, and academic achievement.
Assist in scouting opponents and analyzing game footage to develop game plans.
Collaborate with the Head Coach in managing team logistics, including travel, scheduling, and equipment.
Foster positive relationships with players, parents, staff, and the broader school community.
Support the academic progress of student-athletes and reinforce the importance of education.
Ensure compliance with all school, conference, and state athletic policies and regulations.

Qualifications:

Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred.
Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and game management.
Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes effectively.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Commitment to the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.
Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel for games as needed.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass a background check and meet all school and state requirements for coaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience playing basketball at the high school or collegiate level.
Teaching or mentoring experience in an educational setting.
Familiarity with video analysis and statistical software for coaching purposes.
