Purpose of Department:

The Simulation & Game Design program at William Peace University enables students to channel their creativity into a fulfilling career by cultivating their ability to analyze, understand and interact with the world around them.

Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Department Chair for Art, Communication and SGD, the Esports Coach is responsible for instructing and coaching student athletes on game strategies and competitive performance principles. The Coach will support club teams and related academic program majors and will partner with Enrollment Management in providing relevant information to prospective students.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
  • Instructs, teaches, and coaches student-athletes on game strategies and performance principles.
  • Supports University Esports club teams and related academic program majors.
  • Collaborates well with Department Chair, Admissions, Information Technology and Marketing staff, and other campus partners
  • Supervises and organizes schedules for practice and game sessions, including sponsored games, open recreation gaming, special events, leagues, camps, and tournaments.
  • Monitors and promotes student-athlete academic progress and success.
  • Participate in the on-going recruitment and retention of student-athletes, both during and out of the respective sport season.
  • Assist in scheduling, meal planning, and providing transportation which may include driving student-athletes to matches.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates Esports within the academic and athletic philosophies of William Peace University and NACE; verifies eligibility of student athletes according to established regulations and procedures.
  • Develops and promotes public relations and media efforts of the Esports program.
  • Understands and works toward the goals of William Peace University and NACE.
  • Adheres to collegiate policies, procedures and trends related to Intercollegiate and competitive Esports, NACE philosophy, rules, regulations, regarding eligibility, recruiting, game seasons, etc.
  • Implements proper coaching and motivation techniques.
  • Exhibits strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Exhibits strong operational knowledge of Gaming Hardware and applicable software
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of experience working in a competitive Esports environment or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to work evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Esports Management, Computer Science, Simulation and Game Design, Interactive Design or Integrated Media. Experience as a competitive player and coach in multi-player online video games with team-based elements and knowledge of Rocket League, Overwatch, or similar games. Esports coaching and teaching experience in a collegiate Esports program.
