Purpose of Role Under general supervision the Assistant M&W Track & Field Coach – Sprints/Jumps/Hurdles, assists the head coach in developing student-athletes academically and athletically for the track & field program, and contributes to the educational mission of the College by offering direction and instruction in the area of track & field athletics. About This Opportunity Joining our Athletics team, the Assistant Men’s/Women’s Track & Field Coach (10 months) Sprints/Jumps/hurdles will be responsible for the following: Contributes to the educational mission of the College by coordinating the instruction of student-athletes in the area of cross country/track & field training and competition; Recruits student-athletes for the track & field program; Instructs methods and strategies and coaches student-athletes in the sport, with a focus on sprinting, jumping, and hurdles. Leads sprint group conditioning practices and jumps/hurdles skill practices; Develops and provides optional off-season training plans during winter and summer recess. Provides academic support for student-athletes; Provides motivation, counseling, and supervision for student-athletes; Monitors day-to-day class attendance and maintains contact with student-athletes regarding their academic progress; Transports student-athletes to and from practices and competitions utilizing college-owned vehicles; Operates the program under the rules and regulations of the College, the NCAA, and the ECC; understanding that a coach can be suspended for a period of time without pay or terminated if found to be involved in significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations; Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach. Faculty and staff are expected to maintain the confidentiality of all confidential and proprietary information ( including but not limited to : student personal information, student grades , emplo yee personal information, et c.), both during and after their employment with the College. If a faculty or staff member has a question about the confidentiality of a particular matter, he/she should consult their supervisor. Any violation of this rule shall subject the faculty /staff member to disciplinary action, up to and including immediate termination of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of coaching and teaching techniques and the ability to effectively use them. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary. Ability to drive a personal or college vehicle for the purpose of college business on a regular basis. Ability to travel when necessary. Knowledge of recruiting techniques and the ability to effectively use them. Current certification in CPR, AED, and First Aid. Annual Blood Borne Pathogen education/training. Must be available to work early mornings and weekends Required Qualifications Bachelor degree in a related field is required with coaching experience. At least one year of coaching experience in track & field at the collegiate or higher competitive level of high school or two-year college. Valid driver’s license required. License must meet insurance company rules and regulations for driving underwriting criteria. Preferred Qualifications Experience coaching and/or competing in sprints and/or hurdles. Position is part time, professional exempt and requires evening and weekend hours and travel.
