  • Job Responsibilities:
  • Coaching and Instruction + Builds relationships with players to provide mentorship, guidance, and support both on and off the field/court.

+ Coaches and instructs student athletes during practices and on game day in how to perform their sport such as proper skills and instruction of fundamentals, physical health, team concepts, and safety. + Support the overall physical conditioning needs of student-athletes in conjunction with the head coach and strength & conditioning staff + Conducts player evaluations and develop plans to enhance the student-athlete experience. Team Development + Seeks out, applies, and shares knowledge of sport trends and innovations in playing and teaching. + Assists with practice planning, workouts, scouting, film breakdown, and game management. + Collaborates with the head coach to devise game plans and strategies for upcoming opponents. Collaboration + Collaborate and communicate with personnel including athletic trainers, strength coaches, equipment manager, senior staff, etc. on behalf of the team + Builds strong relationships with alumni, fans, campus partners and the broader community. + Partners with campus stakeholders, such as Admissions to coordinate and organize campus visits for recruits, and College Relations to assist in coordinating fundraising and alumni outreach. Recruitment + Assist the head coach with the development and implementation of recruiting plan, associated strategy and maintain a database of prospective student-athletes in coordination with the office of enrollment management. + Cultivate a good rapport with coaches and area scouts + Organize, plan and direct recruits on their campus visits Program Administration + Monitors the eligibility status of team members in cooperation with Athletics Compliance Officer and the academic officials of the University to ensure compliance with University, department, NCAA, and League policies and regulations. + Adheres to NCAA rules and compliance. + Assist with administrative duties as assigned (travel plans, equipment inventory/purchase & camps/clinics) May serve as back up to Head Coach in their absence. Other duties as assigned.

Experience:

+ Bachelor’s degree + A minimum of 1-3 years of previous collegiate coaching experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered. + Multi-year experience as a player and/or coach with the ability to instruct student-athletes on how to perform their sport and improve individual and team performance. + An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. + Must pass NCAA Coaches Certification Test and have (or successfully complete) AED/CPR and First Aid certification.

The assistant coach for RIT’s Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program will join an exceptional staff who strive to create an unrivaled experience that fosters the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of our student-athletes in order to prepare them for success as leaders in the global community. Reporting to the Head Coach for Men’s Ice Hockey the assistant coach will provide leadership for RIT’s Division I Men’s Ice Hockey program. The incumbent must have outstanding technical, tactical and strategic knowledge of the sport of Ice Hockey. Responsibilities include assisting and supporting the head coach with the planning, development and implementation of all activities related to the program. Including, but not limited to, recruitment, supervision, mentoring, and coaching of student athletes, planning, scheduling, and instruction for individual and team development, practices, training sessions, contests, game plans, player development and advisement/mentorship. The incumbent will demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to University, department and NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, League and division rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the department are to be reported to the appropriate parties. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated track record of success. They should also have strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently.
