Queens Job Summary:
The Assistant Fencing Coach provides a quality varsity program, which will challenge and develop the physical, mental and personal abilities of student-athletes of a Division I program; designs drills and activities in line with fencer’s experience and skill; acts as a positive role model for the team members; and supervises practices and meets, prioritizing safety at all times. Reporting to the Head Fencing Coach of Men’s and Women’s Team, the Assistant Fencing Coach is a part-time position with mandatory traveling to all St. John’s University fencing competitions scheduled. The final candidate will be required to successfully complete a background check.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Assistant Fencing Coach at St. John’s University include, but are not limited to the following: Aid in all aspects of coaching a nationally competitive Division 1 Fencing program, including thorough knowledge of the sport, coaching strategies, and player development. Support in overall program planning and organization. Assist in recruitment of student-athletes on national and regional levels. Adhere to NCAA rules and regulations. Work within the framework of the Department of Athletics administration and coaches. Communicate effectively with students, faculty, administration, staff, and alumni.
Qualification:
Competitive coaching experience in foil or sabre for 5-8 years. Bachelor’s degree in physical education and sport fencing or 8-10 years of high-level competitive experience as a foil or sabre fencer. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Excellent computer skills. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $16,390.
