POSITION SUMMARY

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The ELEVATE Coach/Instructor will be responsible for coaching our ELEVATE (High Intensity Interval Training) program. As part of the Health and Wellness team, the ELEVATE Coach/Instructor is responsible for fostering and promoting an energetic, motivating, safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leads all scheduled ELEVATE classes that are scheduled and marketed by the Health & Wellness Director. Substitutes and covers classes as needed. Records class attendance as required before each class. Implements Functional Fitness programming, based on prewritten workouts provided by the Health and Wellness Director. Demonstrations proper form, technique and execution of all exercises to be performed during class. Must be able to assess participants and provide modifications for exercises and movements as necessary. Organizes equipment for class prior to class and cleans/reorganizes equipment after class for proper room setup. Ensures the safety and well-being of each member and maintains a positive workout experience. Delivers a high-energy, organized class to enhance the member experience and motivate members to exercise to the best of their abilities. Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment. Identifies and celebrates the successes of program participants, as well as proactively communicates area of concern. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures, and completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Enforces and leads all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required. Builds effective, authentic relationships with all members and families; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Ability to articulate and model the YMCA’s four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Attends all staff meetings and trainings for ELEVATE coaches. Wear required and approved uniform ELEVATE coach uniforms at all times. Supports the Health & Wellness Director with administrative duties, as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum age of 18 years old. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention Training, required within 90 days of hire date. 1+ years fitness and group exercise, or group training program experience preferred.
