The Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the high school boys basketball program. This includes planning and conducting practices, managing game-day operations, developing student-athletes, maintaining program compliance with district and state athletic policies, and fostering a culture of academic and athletic excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Program Oversight
Develop and implement a comprehensive basketball program for grades 9-12.
Establish a vision for the program that emphasizes sportsmanship, character development, and academic achievement.
Supervises Junior Varsity and Junior High Programs to maintain consistency with program goals.
Player Development
Conduct organized, structured, and developmentally appropriate practices.
Monitor individual and team progress, providing constructive feedback.
Encourage participation in off-season training and development opportunities.
Develop and facilitate an off-season plan
Academic Monitoring
Support student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility.
Partner with teachers, counselors, and families to ensure academic success.
Game Management
Develop and execute game strategies and manage all in-game decisions.
Coordinate team travel, equipment, and logistics in conjunction with the Athletic Director.
Represent the team at all scheduled games, tournaments, and meetings.
Community Engagement
Promote the basketball program within the school and community.
Maintain positive relationships with parents, boosters, media, and other stakeholders.
Coordinate team fundraising and community service events as needed.
Facilitate and manages program Booster Group
Compliance & Administration
Develop and implement team rules that correspond with district policies, including study table.
Ensure adherence to school district policies, conference regulations, and
PIAA/NFHS
rules.
Maintain accurate records of team rosters, physicals, eligibility, and incident reports.
Submit required documentation and reports on time to the athletic office.
Qualifications
Associates degree or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Prior coaching experience required; varsity-level or head coaching experience strongly preferred.
Valid coaching certification as required by PIAA (e.g., Concussion, First Aid, CPR, Sudden Cardiac Arrest training).
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Commitment to promoting equity, teamwork, and student development.
Working Conditions
Evening and weekend availability required.
Travel with the team to away games and tournaments.
Exposure to outdoor elements during portions of the season.

Full-Time
Salary:
$5,500 to $9,000 Stipend
Job Requirements
At least 3 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
Bachelor degree preferred.
