Job Description:

The Head Esports Coach is a member of the Athletics department and reports directly to the Directors of Athletics and Recreation. As head coach, this position would be responsible for all aspects of the Esports programs in areas of organization, administration, student athlete recruitment and development, fund-raising, coaching and practice planning (skill development and strategy), ensuring proper safety precautions are followed at all times, coordinating athletic events and programs that intentionally enhance campus community and school pride, working with other students, faculty and staff to support the retention of student-athletes and promote teamwork, set high standards and support the academic, personal and leadership development of student athletes.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist in public promotion of the program, identify and engage potential gamers
Provides technical expertise in the fundamentals of the sport, instructs student-athletes in the basics as well as advanced strategies
Supervise all Esports practices and program events and functions
Scout and recruit high school and transfer students to participate in the program
Assist in developing a long-term vision for the IU Esports program
Identify which game titles should be pursued by the Esports program and ensure these pursuits align with the mission and vision of the institution
Ensure program compliance with all league, conference, and institutional rules and regulations
Manage the Esports program in accordance with the policies and procedures of IU, as well as athletic department specific rules and regulations
Identify and implement a strategy to increase the visibility of the Esports program through streaming platforms
Represent the University and its athletics program, with honesty, integrity and sportsmanship at all times, to various institutional programs and students, parents, the general public, alumni and external agencies
Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences
Ability to work extended hours, including some evenings and weekends

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of two years of experience in competitive video gaming involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements Expert knowledge of current conference selected games.

Preferred Requirements:

Experience recruiting high school and/or college students is highly preferred.
