School Year Functional Purpose:
Working with assistant coaches, the Head Coach•Girls Wrestling leads, trains, and motivates student athletes as members of the GMHS girls wrestling team. The Wrestling head coach is responsible for guided instruction in the areas of rules, techniques, conditioning, and match strategy to develop student athletes, providing leadership and support to help the team improve performance and achieve individual and team goals.
Job Functions:
Plan, organize, and conduct wrestling practices, training sessions, and team meetings. Develop and implement effective training programs tailored to the skill level, weight class, and abilities of student-athletes. Provide instruction and guidance on proper wrestling techniques, match strategies, conditioning, and safety protocols. Monitor and evaluate student-athletes’ progress and performance, offering constructive feedback and individualized support for growth. Foster a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team environment that promotes respect, integrity, accountability, and sportsmanship. Coordinate team logistics, including scheduling practices and matches, transportation, and equipment management. Collaborate with school administrators, athletic department staff, and parents to ensure compliance with district, league, and PIAA policies and procedures. Serve as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, encouraging academic success, leadership, personal responsibility, and character development. Represent the girls wrestling program at meetings, events, and competitions, maintaining professionalism, enthusiasm, and support for student-athletes. Uphold the values and mission of General McLane School District, promoting the overall well-being, safety, and success of student-athletes both on and off the mat.
Qualifications:
Previous coaching experience in wrestling or a related field. Knowledge of wrestling techniques, training principles, match strategies, and safety guidelines. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate, mentor, and inspire student-athletes to achieve their full potential. Commitment to fostering a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for competitions, events, and team activities.

Compensation:
This is a GMEA-contracted position and compensation is based on the 2025-2026 GMEA contract and amount listed. Must complete and submit all six (6) required GMSD clearances and TB test before starting. The position above will remain posted for a minimum of seven days.
