Associate Head Coach, Cross Country/Track & Field

Job Summary:

Muhlenberg College, a Division III institution and a member of the Centennial Conference is seeking applications for a full-time Associate Head Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field. Responsibilities include assisting the head coach in all phases of the program within the college, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities:

Coaching Coach, motivate, counsel, and support student-athletes in realizing their potential for personal growth and development as students, athletes, and members of the Muhlenberg campus community. Attend practices, training sessions, team meetings, and contests (home and away). Plan and evaluate program results. Assist in achieving team success within and beyond the conference. General Athletic/Team Operations In collaboration with the Head Coach, develop an annual professional development plan that will ensure awareness of trends, best practices, new information, etc. related to athletics, recreation, student development, leadership and diversity and inclusion practices and skills. Assist in hiring, mentoring and supervising part-time assistant coaches. Assist in team promotion through social media. Actively participate in fundraising activities in support of the College and Muhlenberg Athletics. Establish and meet annual recruitment goals, working with the head coach and Assistant Director of Athletics for Recruitment and Retention to ensure long term recruiting goals are being achieved. Maintain recruiting software, monitor the various recruiting services, and analyze national recruiting trends and research/review each area to support recruiting goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Student-Athlete & Community Relations Under the general direction of the head coach, provide leadership and support to all facets of the program in advancing the mission of the College and Athletics department. Promote strong parent, alumni, and community relations. Lead and participate in Divisional and College-wide committees and initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. Related professional experience or a combination of professional and athletic experience leading to a similar qualification. Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the Division III philosophy of athletics and adherence to NCAA regulations regarding operation of athletic programs. Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and engage with a varied audience, including but not limited to students, parents, College employees, alumni, and community relations. Ability to travel and adapt to varying schedules, including evening and weekend hours, in accordance with the needs of the team. Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive academic and professional environment where all members of our campus community are respected, valued, can succeed, and thrive.
