Job Description
East Stroudsburg University is hiring an Assistant Wrestling Coach! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. As the Assistant Wrestling Coach, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable supporting the administration and development of the ESU Wrestling program. You will be an active member of the Athletics team and will work closely with the Head Coach to implement data-driven techniques for sport recruitment. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your coaching experience and excellent communication skills, all while ensuring compliance with NCAA and PSAC regulations. To be successful in this role, the individual must be flexible, possess strong critical thinking skills and be a great leader for student athletes. You may have to flex your schedule from time to time based on the needs of the business to be a true Assistant Wrestling Coach. The position is part-time (0.2 FTE) role, with a varying schedule during the year. This position requires up to 60% travel to games. When our team shows up for work, they are energized and motivated to succeed all while being the most crucial piece to keeping the ESU operations humming. What Will I Do At ESU? (AKA Essential Duties)
Assume the responsibility of leading specific drills and teaching progressions and involved with all organized team activities.
Assist with the implementation of strength and conditioning program.
Practice and competition film evaluation and breakdown.
Assist with any administrative work under coordination of Head Coach.
Demonstrate on-site supervision during all practices, scrimmages, and events related to the program along with set up and take down of practice and competition areas as assigned.
Responsible for exhibiting an appropriate level of expertise in his/her sport and to seek self-improvement by attending clinics, workshops, seminars, and other related professional development programs as required.
Oversee student academic achievement and requirements necessary for progress toward a degree as a matter of the highest priority for the student-athlete.
Responsible for assisting in scouting opponents, including scouting reports and digital media.
Spearhead recruiting qualified student-athletes to attend East Stroudsburg University in accordance with NCAA, PSAC, and University policies as assigned.
In the absence of the Head Coach, responsible for assuming the responsibilities of the head coach.
What We’re Looking For (AKA Qualifications)
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Ability to develop and communicate strategy under the pressures of competition.
Comprehensive knowledge of and commitment to compliance with the rules, regulations and policies of NCAA, PSAC, and other applicable affiliations is required.
Experience in coaching wrestling as a Head Coach or Assistant Coach on the collegiate level is required or an equivalent combination and training that may include successful professional, high school, or club coaching experience.
Ability to demonstrate and teach current skills and techniques required of student-athletes competing in wrestling.
Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
