Seasonal (Fall and Spring), Part-Time starting in July 2025 Job Description Ashley Hall is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Head Sailing Coach to lead its competitive sailing program. The coach will be responsible for developing a high-quality sailing program that provides a clear and supportive pathway for student-athletes, from beginner through varsity levels. The ideal candidate will create a strong vision for the program and lead its strategic growth, promoting teamwork, safety, skill development, and sportsmanship. Qualifications and Personal Attributes The ideal candidate should possess extensive sailing experience, demonstrate excellent leadership and communication skills, and have a proven record of success coaching youth or scholastic sailing programs. Major Responsibilities The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:

Leadership & Coaching:

Serve as Head Coach for the Ashley Hall Sailing Program. Lead practices and regattas, overseeing athlete development from Grades 7-12. Inspire a team culture rooted in collaboration, sportsmanship, and discipline. Provide mentorship and support to student-athletes both on and off the water.

Program Development:

Create and implement a comprehensive sailing curriculum with a strong focus on safety, seamanship, racing tactics, and boat handling. Develop strategies for long-term program growth, including youth recruitment, skill progression, and competition readiness. Foster connections with the lower school and broader school community to build excitement and support..

Practice & Regatta Preparation:

Design and lead safe and effective on-water and land-based training sessions. Prepare the team for regattas by teaching racing strategies, rules, and weather-related decision-making. Analyze team performance and adjust coaching strategies as needed.

Event & Regatta Management:

Serve as the on-site coach at all regattas and team events, ensuring safe boat handling and strong team representation. Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and regatta organizers on logistics, registrations, and travel.

Athlete Development:

Support athletes of all skill levels by creating individualized development plans. Promote participation in off-season clinics, camps, and community sailing events. Encourage team bonding through activities that strengthen interpersonal and leadership skills.

Collaboration:

Work closely with other Ashley Hall coaches to align athletic values and student support. Coordinate with Charleston-area sailing programs and yacht clubs.

Community Engagement:

Represent Ashley Hall and its values within the local and regional sailing communities. Engage families and alumni to build enthusiasm and support.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Manage scheduling of practices, regattas, and transportation. Oversee the maintenance, inventory, and safe operation of all sailing equipment. Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and risk management protocols. Key Requirements Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience in sailing, preferably with high school or youth sailing programs. Strong knowledge of sailing fundamentals, racing tactics, safety protocols, and fleet management. Certification in US Sailing Level 1 (minimum); Level 2 or higher preferred. CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage team logistics and regatta planning. Willingness to work evenings and weekends, and to travel for regattas and events. Strong preference for candidates interested in a full-time role at Ashley Hall. Additional Requirements Completion of all required Ashley Hall and SCISA paperwork. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background check, reference checks, and medical requirements.

Time Commitment:
