Job Description
Goodwill Industries of Upstate/Midlands SC is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Skilled Trades Instructor to join our team and deliver comprehensive training in heat pump installation as part of the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerators Program. This program aims to equip participants with practical skills and industry-recognized certifications to launch careers in clean energy and HVAC trades, supporting sustainable economic growth in our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver hands-on training modules on heat pump installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting in accordance with industry standards and local codes
- Prepare instructional materials, including lesson plans, demonstrations, and assessments, to ensure effective learning outcomes
- Assess participant progress and provide constructive feedback to support skill development
- Ensure a safe learning environment by enforcing safety protocols and best practices
- Collaborate with program coordinators to tailor curriculum to meet industry needs and certification requirements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of heat pump technology, HVAC standards, and emerging trends in renewable energy
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating classroom environment
- Support program outreach efforts to recruit and engage diverse participants from the community
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and certifications awarded.
Supplemental Information
- Independently instruct Heat Pump courses, demonstrating knowledge of the curriculum
- Support safe and effective learning environments in classroom and lab settings
- Engage students through hands-on instruction and real-world scenarios
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with reporting requirements
- Complete required training, including six course walkthroughs, four administrative skills sessions, and mock teach-back sessions
- Uphold program standards, reinforce career readiness, and ensure student safety
- Participate in the T3 program, demonstrating professionalism and effective communication
- Travel to training sites as needed and maintain confidentiality of program materials
- Complete the Train-the-Trainer (T3) program for Heat Pump installation as part of the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator (GCTA)
- Obtain certification to instruct future GCTA cohorts and independently teach Heat Pump courses
- Assist in preparing participants for employment or apprenticeships
- Provide follow-up and retention services to ensure continued employment for participants
- Represent Goodwill at community events and partner meetings as needed

Education and Experience
- Proven experience in heat pump installation, HVAC systems, or related skilled trades
- HVAC technician certification (e.g., EPA Certification, HVAC Excellence, NATE) preferred
- Strong understanding of industry standards, safety regulations, and local building codes related to heat pump installation
- Prior teaching or training experience, especially in technical or vocational settings, is highly desirable
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles and backgrounds
