MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Three years’ successful experience as assistant coach.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Valid Tennessee teaching certificate preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOALS & OBJECTIVES

To provide overall leadership, supervision and coordination of the program.
To provide and atmosphere that promotes the development of skills necessary that allow student-athletes to participate at a competitive level. To provide a program that is an extension of the overall academic program at Tennessee High School (THS). To provide a program that emphasizes academics, discipline, high morals, and team play. To provide a program that builds a strong foundation that will prepare our student-athletes to become productive citizens. To provide a program that promotes integrity and sportsmanship and teaches student athletes to be aware that doing the right thing is more important than the outcome of a game. To provide a program that promotes work ethic, “Viking Pride,” and a competitive nature.

PERSONAL EXPECTATIONS

To be a person of high moral character and integrity.
To be loyal to the administration of THS and Bristol Tennessee City Schools (BTCS).
To represent THS and BTCS in a professional manner when dealing with students, parents, community members or other schools.
To maintain the integrity of THS and BTCS by complying with all TSSAA rules and regulations.

To create a climate that emphasizes discipline and hard work on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Evaluates and formulates an improvement plan for the overall program.
Oversees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the program.
Oversees and coordinates the supervision of student-athletes.
Oversees and coordinates all practices.
Oversees and coordinates all game day activities.
Promotes the program in both the school and the community and serves as the spokesperson in the area of public relations.
Works cooperatively with school staff, student-athletes, and parents in promoting the program.
Works cooperatively with coaches of other sports to ensure the overall success of THS Athletics.
Develops, with the Athletic Director, a budget for the program.
Represents THS at all meetings that pertain to the program.
Assist the Athletic Director in maintaining eligibility records with TSSAA.
Oversees and assigns specific duties for assistant coaches.
Evaluates and formulates an improvement plan for all assistant coaches.
Maintains and oversees the safety conditions of all dressing rooms, facilities, and equipment used by the program.
Serves as liaison between the program and the Viking Boosters Club.
Assists the Athletic Director in planning and organizing the THS All-Sports Banquet.
Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary to compete.
Formulates and oversees a code of conduct and expectations for the program.
Performs such duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Athletic Director.
Ensures that accident reports/injury reports are submitted to the Athletic Office in a prompt manner.
Ensures that all paperwork for overnight trips or coaches clinics is turned into the Athletic Director.
Develops, implements, and oversees an off-season strength and conditioning program.
Communicate with players, parents, and the community by:
Making oneself available to athletes and parents when necessary.
Setting up a pre-season team/parent meeting to discuss rules, policies, and expectations for the season.
Meeting with each player and explain his/her role on your team. Meeting with all players throughout the season to evaluate their game and practice performance and to formulate a plan for improvement.
Providing all players/parents with a schedule of practices and games.
Contacting parents in the event of an injury and arranging to visit.
