Visiting Assistant Professor, Science Education (Two-Year Appointment).
Auburn University Department of Curriculum and Teaching is hiring for a nine-month, visiting assistant professor position to begin August 2025. The faculty member will be hired on a two-year, fixed appointment to support the Secondary Science Education and the AUTEACH programs. Successful applicants will teach classes to undergraduate and graduate students in these programs. They will also be expected to pursue a rigorous research agenda associated with science education learning and teaching. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Ø Engage in rigorous research resulting in scholarly publications, preferably peer-reviewed journal articles in prestigious outlets
Ø Teach undergraduate-, master’s-, and doctoral-level courses in support of the Science Education and AUTeach programs
Ø Supervise student teaching interns in the Science Education and AUTeach program
Ø Secure extramural research funding as appropriate to disciplinary focus
Ø Advise and mentor graduate students
Ø Direct student research including projects, theses, and dissertations
Ø Participate in the planning and implementation of curricular changes for the program and department
Ø Participate in professional activities as needed to ensure the well-being of the program, department, and college
RANK/SALARY
Visiting Assistant Professor (nine-month contract) at a salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Minimum one-year contract, renewable for up to two-years. This appointment may be renewed by mutual agreement, contingent upon availability of funds, the need for services, and satisfactory performance.
Minimum Qualifications Ø Earned doctorate in Secondary Science Education or related discipline at the time employment begins
Ø Minimum of three years, classroom experience teaching secondary science education
Ø Experience or demonstrated potential to teach courses and supervise student teaching interns in a secondary science education program
Ø Record of research in science education with the potential to publish in top peer-reviewed outlets
Ø Evidence of extramural support or the potential to be successful in securing extramural support
Ø Effective interpersonal and communication skills
Ø Commitment to the values and priorities of the College of Education
Desired Qualifications Ø Record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals
Ø Record of teaching science teaching methods courses and supervising student interns
Ø Record of participation in external grant activity including administration or stewardship
Ø Record of advising, engaging, and mentoring undergraduate, masters, and/or doctoral students
Ø Demonstrated ability to engage in science education and AUTeach program design activities (e.g., curriculum redesign, course development, administrative tasks).
