Veterinary Medicine Job Summary This is a Clinical Track or Tenure Track faculty position in Small Animal Surgery. The Small Animal Surgeon must have a commitment to the University’s tri-partite mission of teaching, research, and service; and participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, graduate students, interns, and graduate veterinarians. The candidate must also participate in providing client surgery services to the Small Animal Teaching Hospital. Clinical services also include participation in after-hours emergency duty. Essential Job Duties
Must have a commitment to the University’ s tri-partite mission of teaching, research, and service.
Participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, graduate students, interns, and graduate veterinarians.
Creative scholarship and collaborative research activities in small animal surgery.
Develop innovative teaching and service programs.
Provide client services in small animal surgery and other surgical-related services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH).
After-hours/on-call emergency duty.
Development of strong professional relationships with referring veterinarians.
Participation in state and national outreach and continuing education.
Participation on college and university committees.
Preferred Qualifications
DVM or equivalent degree.
Board certification by the ACVS or ECVS will be given preference, however, candidates who are board eligible will be considered.
Clinical experience and documented competence in small animal surgery required.
Clinical experience and documented competence in medical and surgical management in small animals
Three to four years of postgraduate clinical experience, including a small animal rotating internship and/or clinical instructor experience in an academic setting are preferred.
Physical Demands
Ability to operate standard office equipment
Ability to walk short distances
Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items
Ability to view a computer terminal
