Job Description Alabama State University, College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Department of Languages and Literatures invites application for an assistant professor, tenure-track position teaching English. The ideal candidate should have a background and/or research interest in any of the following subject: early American literature, modern and contemporary British literature, post-colonial literature, African literature, film linguistics, creative writing or rhetoric and composition. Candidates should also be able to teach composition, research, rhetorical analysis from basic to advanced level, and other general distribution sources in the discipline. We are seeking applicants with a track record of demonstrated excellence in teaching and research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate excellence in teaching,
Maintain an active research agenda and publish in the discipline
Mentor students
Participate on college, departmental, and university committees
Participate on statewide and national committees, or in those disciplinary endeavors outside the university
Main membership in professional organizations, and engage in continuous professional development
Present conference papers, engage in community service and contribute time, talent and energy to developing and/or supporting programs in the department. Minimum Qualifications An earned PHD in English, MFA in creative writing or film, or a closely related academic discipline such as rhetoric and composition, comparative literature, or the like. Excellent candidates who are ABD in the aforementioned discipline areas will be considered as well. The rank offered at assistant professor or associate professor will be based on experience. We are seeking candidates with a demonstrated excellence in teaching (which may have been as a graduate teaching assistant or instructor) and the potential for notch research. It is to be noted that for the purpose of continuous improvement of faculty qualifications as faulty members complete advanced degrees, certifications, licenses, etc., the faculty member will send official documentation, within 45 days of hire, to the Office of Human Resources, and the credentialing file in Academic Affairs.
