Troy – T01 Job Summary The Assistant Professor of Lighting Design position in Theatre & Dance is responsible for oversight of lighting, projections, and sound design and technology for productions; teaching courses in design, technology, and general theatre; producing quality theatrical lighting, projections, and sound that complement and support theatre and dance presentations; managing the department’s lighting and electrics shop; oversight of inventory, acquisition, organization, management, repair, and installation of technology and tools; supervising and training student crews in lighting and electrics; working within professional networks and organizations beyond the University; working with other Design and Technology faculty to develop curriculum and projects aimed specifically to students with goals and interests in the field of Design/Technology/Management; providing a focus on innovating and advancing ideas and practices in theatrical design and technology. Minimum Qualifications 1. Master’s degree, MFA, or other terminal degree in Lighting Design and Technology or related area of theatre, design, or technology
2. Academic experience in teaching, mentorship, and/or leadership
3. Experience working in a theatrical setting, university or professional
4. Industry knowledge and demonstrated hands-on experience of technology practices across multiple media and disciplines in lighting and projections
5. Extensive knowledge of safe use of equipment and safety standards
6. Demonstrated drafting skills and proficiency in VectorWorks, CAD, and/or related technology
7. Collaborative and open attitude
8. Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students and faculty in an integrated arts approach
9. Ability to recruit and retain students with design/tech/management career interests and goals
10. Strong interpersonal skills
11. Ability to demonstrate responsible judgment and productive relationships
12. Ability to encourage a positive work environment Preferred Qualifications 1. MFA in Lighting, Sound, and/or Projections Design
2. Three to five years of experience in university setting
3. Three to five years of experience in professional theatre
4. Valid state driver’s license and ability to occasionally drive 24′ box trucks
5. Experience in Technical Direction and/or management Will this position require driving (personal vehicle, university vehicle, utility vehicle, or golf cart) in order to perform the job duties? Driving may be necessary but is not a primary responsibility
