Job Description

The Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine seeks a licensed clinical psychologist to provide expert clinical services within the Continuing Care Clinic Adult Outpatient Services of the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital. The position carries a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Department of Psychiatry. This position is full-time and includes the provision of direct clinical care to patients, and for interested candidates, opportunities to engage in support and supervision to psychology interns and/or practicum students. The psychologist will provide clinical services in the Adult Outpatient Service, which serves a diverse population of adults aged 18 and older presenting for a wide variety of mental health diagnoses. The psychologist will carry a caseload of patients and will be involved in providing direct clinical care including initial intake assessment, individual, group and/or family therapy. Interested candidates may also perform comprehensive psychological assessment for adults in the Adult Outpatient Service, and may participate in program evaluation and development, performance improvement, staff enrichment, and research. Yale New Haven Hospital Yale New Haven Hospital is the major teaching and clinical research facility of the Yale University School of Medicine and consistently ranks among the best hospitals in the United States. Yale New Haven Hospital encompasses the Yale New Haven Psychiatric Hospital, a 118 bed, acute care, psychiatric facility that consists of five inpatient units across two hospital campus locations, Interventional Psychiatric Services, and several ambulatory Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Outpatient services for adolescents and adults within the greater New Haven area. Continuing Care Clinic The Continuing Care Clinic provides outpatient treatment to adult individuals ages eighteen and older who require treatment for psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders of either acute or prolonged duration. Treatment is provided without regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, ability to pay, or special needs. Patients are predominantly residents of New Haven and surrounding towns. Individuals may be referred from any treatment provider. Psychiatric diagnoses most commonly treated include, but are not limited to, Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Schizophrenia or other Psychotic Disorders, Substance Abuse Disorders, Personality Disorders and Adjustment Disorders. Patients may have co-morbid medical diagnoses in addition to their psychiatric disorder(s). An interdisciplinary approach is utilized to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care and continuing care or discharge needs. Treatment services provided include pharmacological management, group therapy and/or brief individual or family therapy, the frequencies of which are based upon an individualized plan of care for each patient.
