Job Description

Summary The Department of Math and Computer Science is one of ten departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. The Department offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Computer Information Sciences. All majors must choose a specialization in Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, or Digital Media. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is seeking to fill a full-time, continuing contract Computer Science Assistant Professor position. The anticipated start term for the position will be the Fall 2025 term. Primary teaching responsibilities include computer programming courses in Python and Java as well as database and software engineering courses (12 credit hours per semester). The position also requires developing and maintaining research activities that involve undergraduate students and yield peer-reviewed publications, undertaking scholarly activities focused on promoting undergraduate research experiences, and providing academic advising. The applicant is also expected to participate fully in department, college, and university-wide initiatives and activities. This is a 9-month position effective 8/15/2025. The review of applications will continue until the position is filled. Essential Functions Barry University emphasizes excellence in teaching in a student-focused, undergraduate environment. Excellent communication and teaching skills. Evidence of mentoring undergraduate research, effective advising, service to the department, college, university, and community, and a wide range of interests in computer and data science. The ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution is essential. Qualifications/Requirements A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field is a requirement. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated expertise and/or experience teaching and developing computer science curriculum. Excellent communication skills.
